Everyday

On the wall just above my Mac, I have an old note which has been there for several years now. I wrote it when I decided to do something valuable everyday, so it simply reads “everyday” – to remind me of my decision.

I spent most of the yesterday working but was not satisfied with what I’ve done. My Photoshop shapes were scrappy and done far too quickly, the colors were awful, the textures and effects unrealistic. At the end of the day, I was really unhappy with it. I decided to fix it all up, even though the client did not request it and even though I won’t get paid for the additional hours I put in. The real value of extra work lies somewhere else. Around 2:30 AM, I went to bed, feeling satisfied.

Settling for anything less than that won’t get you far. Push yourself until you know it in your heart you’ve done it right.
