Times New Roman Isn’t Evil

Yes, that’s right—the notorious Times New Roman font isn’t evil. Despite the general opinion that the font is pretty much worthless, and a font not to use on the web, I encourage you to try it on your sites. It might be a good change, and you just might get comments like: “hey, what’s that cool serif font you’re using?”. And, really, if you like the Georgia on this site, wouldn’t you like Times New Roman, too?

Edit: The H2′s on this site are now changed from Georgia to Times New Roman.

I’ve had the idea of re-introducing Times New Roman on my sites for a while now, but only recently tested it and decided to go through with it. Live proof coming in a week or so, I hope.

Here are some simple, quick demos, which reveal that Times New Roman looks decent on bigger sizes.

Times New Roman isn’t that evil.

Times New Roman isn’t that evil.

Times New Roman isn’t that evil.

Times New Roman isn’t that evil.

Edit: The layout of this site really isn’t appropriate for testing big font sizes :). I’ll make sure and think about this kind of stuff in my re-design.

Still not convinced? Do some testing yourself with Marko’s Typetester.

I agree about not so evil nature of Times New Roman. It is very readable font. After all, it is a “Default Font” used everywhere and that wasn’t a coincidence.
    It’s just… well… I don’t like serif fonts that much so I don’t use Times ever.
Btw, when can we expect that redesign? :)

The re-design? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see I guess :)

I’ll just use this space to apologize for the recent downtime. My host is making some heavy changes, so hopefully everything will be more stable soon.

Times isn’t evil at all. I always liked it — it’s just so plain and that makes it cool: example. It adds something to page. Yes I know it’s way old, and then Times was maybe the only safe serif font :)

Ah, I’ve always loved that Soundgarden site. The font-size is a bit too small for my liking, though.

I especially love their index page.

Your site is very beautiful, but I disagree about Times New Roman :D. Bit of a stick in the mud I’m afraid… I don’t even use it for my word-processed printed documents any more!

Personally, I love the serif fonts. It helps make sites look more original. I hope people will soon realise that these fonts are hot. =D
