This story took place some time ago, and I’m not bringing it up to get back at anyone. I even doubt the people involved will be reading this. I merely thought it’d make an interesting read, so here is a short version of the whole mess.
A couple of years back, I won an award for a site of mine. Nothing extraordinary, but something I took pride in nevertheless. The reward should’ve been delivered to me, but right after the contest ended, there were some problems amongst the organizers and a delay occurred. I was reasonable and put no pressure on anyone and decided to let them take care of the problems and wait for my reward. After all, had I gotten into similar problems, I’d not want anyone breathing behind by back.
I decided not to even bother anyone with phone calls then — e-mails are much nicer. So, from time to time, I sent an e-mail to the person in charge of the whole thing. Sometimes, he didn’t reply to an e-mail, but that was OK. I didn’t even get mad or anything when he claimed he didn’t receive the previous mail I sent. Although, you gotta admit it’s highly unlikely, that an IT professional, a person that communicates via e-mail non-stop doesn’t receive an e-mail. There was no bounce. Maybe the e-mail was lost somewhere between here and there. I realized his excuse was not a valid one, but that was OK. I was in no rush. –Read the rest of this post–

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day on the subject of work, work satisfaction and personal satisfaction. Generally, we have a lot in common, and I always enjoy our conversations. He admitted he admired me for having a job I thoroughly enjoy, which once again reminded me I should be thankful–I really am lucky. It’s very important having a job you sincerely love.
But then, he sort of surprised me when he said that web design is a lonely job. He thought he couldn’t be happy having a job like that because it doesn’t involve much communication. I paused for a second, thought about whether he’s right or wrong, and then thought how most people probably share his thoughts. –Read the rest of this post–

Please, please don’t use non-descriptive titles in your posts. Please, for the love of all that’s… sane. I’m fed up with clever titles that give you no idea whatsoever what the post or article is about.
Imagine if I called this little rant of mine “I Hate Jean-Claude Van Damme Flicks” (the thing is, I really dislike his films, as I do non-descriptive headings). Perhaps this would amuse some of you, but what happens if one day, several months from now, you’d want to browse the archives in search of this post and you couldn’t remember the title? You’d know what I’ve written about, but you’d have a tough time finding the post because it’s title is not what the post is about. You’d lose time, you’d get frustrated, then you’d write a post telling people not to use non-descriptive titles.
A quick Google search can lead you to plenty of fine resources on the subject of good titles, such as D. Keith Robinson’s Writing Better Web Page Titles, so please, knock yourself out.

Over the past month or two, I’ve found and grown to love several small programs, utilities and websites. You know, those little things you just can’t live without once you get used to them. Sort of like the “Show Desktop” shortcut. So spend a few minutes of your time a find out whether you’ll find something for yourself in my short list.
While I’m on the subject of making a difference, typing and coding just isn’t the same anymore, not since I got the Logitech UltraX, so another thanks to Matija and others who recommended it. –Read the rest of this post–

I was on the lookout for a new keyboard for a while now, and various friends suggested the Logitech UltraX. Yesterday, I was passing by a computer store on my way to a meeting, and thought I’d stop by later to have a look. When I did, I fell in love instantly.
This one has everything I wanted from a keyboard: excellent quality with a moderate price, soft keys and excellent tactile feeling, a slim, elegant and stylish design, no hotkeys that get in your way while typing, etc. Today is my second day on the UltraX and I’m enjoying every single second of it. If you’re looking to buy a new keyboard for yourself, I thoroughly recommend this one.

It’s that time again, a meme came out of the blue, once more. Didn’t really feel like taking this one, but since Sunday never ever fails to be the dullest week day, I thought maybe this’d pick me up a bit. Thanks Marko. –Read the rest of this post–

Wilar Bayou’s site (screenshot) looks mighty familiar, wouldn’t you agree? I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’m almost certain I’ve seen that very design somewhere else. Perhaps you did, too?

I’ve been playing chess since I was just a kid. My father taught me the game, which I’ve grown more and more fond of since. I’m a member of the local chess club, but I rarely go there, as it takes too much of my time. Instead, I enjoy an occassional game or two on Yahoo! Games, especially now when I’m taking a little break from web-design. You’re up for a game? Contact me, perhaps we can set it up sometime. –Read the rest of this post–

Finished the work on the CD portfolio of the tallented Croatian artist Davor Habajec. The website is currently not available on the web, but it will be some time next year. In the meantime, feast your eyes on these rather small, but nonetheless lovely graphics.

Books. I like books. They smell good. Most of the time. No, call me crazy, but I seriously enjoy the smell of books. I love the “fresh” smell of brand new, just printed books, and I love the sweet smell of libraries and used book stores. It just makes me happy. But enough of that. –Read the rest of this post–

A while back, there was a brief discussion over at Alen’s Pixelpusher, about feeling good about your website design. I’ve been thinking about it the past couple of days, when I realised I’m not enjoying the design process of a new site I’m working on. I’ll share a tip or two with you which might help you work with more ease and personal satisfaction. –Read the rest of this post–

I very rarely install Firefox extensions and use mostly web-design related add-ons. Half an hour or so ago I was browsing around, minding my own business, when I bumped into an extension called SuperDrag&Go. It seemed pretty cool, so I installed it and got hooked very, very quickly. I just had to share my discovery with you. –Read the rest of this post–
